Local Businesses in Edmonton | Infill North Blog

Nicola is the owner and designer behind TwinFlower Studio.

Nicola has been a Floral Designer for over 13 years. She has spent lots of that time learning from the industry’s best designers and developing a strong foundation for proper design mechanics, fresh flower care and handling, and colour harmony.

TwinFlower Studio started as a home-based business in the fall of 2020 (don’t worry, we also applauded her for taking the leap to open a business in the midst of a pandemic). She opened her doors to the public at a new retail location in Spring of 2023. Her space, located at 14716 Stony Plain Road, checked off all the boxes in her vision for her business: a mature neighbourhood, close to an established shopping district, great visibility, and other local businesses nearby.

We’ve been working on finding ways to connect more with the people in our communities and opening up our homes for collaborations seemed like the best place to start. We met Nicola when she stopped by a local open house and gifted Matt a floral arrangement—and we’ve followed along with her journey ever since.

Nicola has a stunning outlook on her work where she works with with clients for any time of occassion, from couples to create their wedding florals to people looking to pick out a single bouquet.

Flowers are with us at every stage of life – from birth to death and I have a unique responsibility to be a part of those moments through my work.

—Nicola, TwinFlower Studio

We invited Nicola to The Gibson, one of our available infill homes for sale in Highlands, to showcase some of winter and Christmas-inspired floral designs.

There was absolutely no surprise on our end that she went above and beyond, and we were thrilled to be able to create a space to showcase what she could create for Edmontonians for their own home.

Nicola is passionate about creating one-of-a-kind designs for weddings and events and putting together designs that speak to individuals, no matter their style.

Do you have any moments in your career that still make you smile? Maybe a win, a client that turned to a friend, or even an ah-ha! business moment?

Watching a couple enter the reception space and hearing the bride say: “They made my dream come true”, and the feeling of opening up my retail space after 2 long years of searching for the right location!

Is there anything you’d like to share about what you hope to see for your business this year? Over the next few years?

In the next year, I hope to see more clients seeking out sustainable floral design. I believe it’s the way of the future and I meet more and more people seeking out local, sustainable, and conscious products and services.

What do you love about your business being based in Edmonton?

I’m a born and raised Edmontonian. I’ve traveled and seen beautiful places, but there’s no place like home. I am excited to see how Edmonton is growing and changing with new small businesses opening up. There’s a lot of love here!

What are some of your favorite Edmonton-based businesses?

I’m a sucker for great coffee – The Colombian, ACE, and Ch. Cafeteria are top picks. You can’t beat a burger from Next Act, and for a date night worth investing in, head to The Butternut Tree! I’m a huge fan of candles from Of Thyme & Thread, cards from Homework Letterpress, and necklaces from Sage & Stone Malas.
